Looks like the folks at Sony Ericsson are working towards an iPhone clone in this yet unidentified handset. While certain quarters are sure that this won't be the Japan-bound SO905i Cybershot phone, that would only mean it will be available worldwide to everyone else which is always a good thing. While the iPhone hasn't exactly done too well after the initial euphoria, it cannot be denied that Apple's offering has certainly influenced the design cues for other handsets.

Motorola has the ROKR E8 up waiting in the wings, boasting a rather different design that somewhat resembles the Q9h when viewed from the side. The front section comes with a unique keyboard that features "buds" as keys, illuminating to reveal the characters each bud represents. Linux-Java will be the operating system of choice, and other features include 2GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, stereo Bluetooth connectivity, and a 2 megapixel camera. Whenever the multimedia player is opened, the standard navigation keys and numeric buttons will be hidden, having the dedicated music shortcut keys light up instead. There is currently no word on pricing or availability.

Verizon will be releasing the Samsung U700 and U900 pretty soon, so here are some images of both handsets. The SCH-U700 will come with a 2 megapixel camera, a QVGA internal display, a microSD memory card slot for expansion options, and a brand new FlashUI theme. As for the SCH-U900, it will take over the faithful A900's position and come with a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, an automatic lens cover, a rotating QVGA display, a microSD memory card slot, and front touch-sensitive music controls. You can expect to see both handsets arrive at Verizon's stores sometime within this month or the next.

Nokia has a brand new 6267 clamshell cellphone available that runs off the S40 operating system. This quad-band GSM/EDGE handset also boasts UMTS 3G support on 2100 and 850MHz frequency bands, making it function in both Europe and selected parts of America. This mid-range handset features dedicated music controls, a 2 megapixel main camera, a microSD memory card slot (up to 4GB), a 16 million color QVGA display, and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. The Nokia 6267 offers up to 6.5 hours of talk time and 12.5 days of standby time. It will begin shipping in Q3 this year and retail for approximately 240 Euros.

Alltel Wireless has just dropped an announcement that it will be carrying the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone so if you've been hankering after this smartphone, now's the chance to get one if you want to stick with Alltel Wireless. I shall briefly go over the features as we have already covered the 8830 World Edition before - it comes with a wide range of audio and video compatibility, light-sensing technology to help prolong battery life, an intuitive user interface, robust call management features, and a really vivid, crisp display. If you haven't yet jumped onto the Sprint or Verizon bandwagon, how about taking a ride on Alltel Wireless instead?

NTT DoCoMo has just announced that it will release a couple of new smartphones that run on the Japanese edition of the Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system. Both the FOMA F1100 and FOMA HT1100 will interface with computers via Outlook Mobile and Internet Explorer Mobile, and comes with security options such as McAfee security scan to keep your smartphone safe from external threats. Data entry is achieved via a ten-key input layout, and both handsets will be marketed during the first quarter of next year. No word on pricing for either smartphone as at press time though.

AT&T is extremely late to the game by offering the Sony Ericsson Z310a especially when the handset was first announced at the end of last year. This clamshell handset might come with spartan features, but it does boast an extremely forward-looking design that is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Features include a 65k color STN internal display, a monochrome external display, a VGA camera, and Bluetooth connectivity. Jet Black and Lush Pink colors are the only choices you have from AT&T, and you can pick it up for free with a 2-year contract or fork out $179.99 and walk away with just the handset.
